Matt McCarty and Ben Griffin Not far behind
Hughes stole the show with his great round, but Ben Griffin came back strong in the last stretch, making five birdies on the back nine to finish at 64, one shot behind Hughes. He and Matt McCarty were tied for second place. Russell Henley and Lanto Griffin both shot 65, which was only two shots behind the leader.
Scottie Scheffler Has Trouble on the Last Hole

Scottie Scheffler, the best U.S. Ryder Cup player, made a rare mistake at the par-5 18th when his drive went off course and made it hard for him to get to the green. He took a par and ended the day with a 70, ending a streak of 21 rounds in the 60s.
Even so, Scheffler and 10 other Ryder Cup players are at Silverado to get better before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in two weeks. Henley, U.S. Open champion J.J. Spaun, and a few others all shot under par, but no one else broke 70.

The players were clearly feeling the Ryder Cup spirit as they spent time together in the same wave of tee times and even shared rooms. The players knew that the tournament was competitive, but they also knew that being close to each other made it special.

Hughes Wants to Finish in the Top 60 of the FedExCup
Hughes is currently ranked 65th in the FedExCup standings. He wants to be in the top 60 by the end of the fall season. If he does well in the Procore Championship, he might be able to get into big events like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational next year.
